D.J. Myers pitched eight shutout innings to outduel Air Force ace Griffin Jax and lead UNLV to a 1-0 victory in a Mountain West baseball game Friday at Wilson Stadium.
Justin Jones’ leadoff home run in the second inning was all the offense needed by Myers (3-1), a junior right-hander, who allowed four singles and two walks and struck out six, throwing 75 of his 102 pitches for strikes.
Jax (6-2), who entered with a 1.66 ERA, also went eight innings and gave up the one run on eight hits and no walks and struck out six. The junior right-hander threw 73 of his 101 pitches for strikes.
Jones’ homer was the game’s lone extra-base hit as the Rebels (13-20, 6-10) halted a four-game skid and dealt the Falcons (18-11, 8-5) their third straight loss.
