Day Two tips off
July 11, 2009 - 12:01 pm
Play is under way for Day Two of the 2009 NBA Summer League with Toronto facing Detroit at Cox Pavilion. The Raptors are coming off an 85-84 loss to the Lakers Friday while the Pistons looked good handling Sacramento. DeMar DeRozan, the Raptors’ first-round pick from USC, is an energetic player. He actually looks like he cares out there, competing every possession. Bryan Colangelo may have a good one here, a guy who will fill Shawn Marion’s athletic role now that the Matrix is in Dallas.
ANOTHER CHANCE FOR PLAISTED
Former BYU center Trent Plaisted is getting a second chance this summer to show he can play at the NBA level. The Pistons, who chose Plaisted in the second round of the 2008 draft, have him on the roster. He’s a truly nice kid, and hopefully things will work out for him. But he probably should have stayed in school two years ago and waited until after his senior year.
LAKERS UP NEXT
The Lakers follow Toronto-Detroit as they take on Cleveland in the 3 p.m. game. Will LeBron James show up as he has done in the past? Not likely in light of the latest Nike controversy where he got dunked on by Xavier’s Jordan Crawford in a pickup game earlier this week. Then again, he might be in Vegas for UFC 100 and he could slip in and out of the Cox before heading to Mandalay Bay. We’ll let you know if King James shows up.
Speaking of the
, that’s all people are talking about today. Players. Coaches. Scouts. Media. It’s created quite a buzz. The Warriors’ Stephen Curry said he may try to finagle a ticket for tonight’s historic card. The concierge folks at Mandalay Bay are probably being bombarded with requests for tickets to the event which sold out in less than a day months ago.
