TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up
1 My Man Sumo – Claimed by Mike Mitchell, always a good thing; proven to like dirt, saves all the ground tonight.
5 Skellytown – Beat the top choice last time; versatile sort has been consistent on dirt, synthetics or grass.
Long Shot – 3 Streets of Heaven
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 Lauren C – Third start off a 4-month hiatus; mare has enough back class to repeat her race or improve a step.
7 Cato Major – Second best in first race off the claim by Jack Carava; he’s had a steady, but not flashy, meet.
Long Shot – 6 Kahlua Mist
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $56,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
2 Nahem – Only horse in the field to have won on turf; Garrett Gomez replacing winning jockey Victor Espinoza.
4 Gab Power – Suspect will stalk the pace set by Shred the Secrets; blinkers off will make him easier to rate.
Long Shot – 6 Burns
Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
7 Stormy Linda – Logical chalk due to Jack Carava; he has more wins this meet than all the other trainers combined.
5 O She So – Has a puncher’s chance if she can repeat her last race; value with low-percentage connections.
Long Shot – 2 Giveme Onereason
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $28,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Ruby Lane – Did everything but win last time out; like the turnback in distance, should finish stronger.
7 Forty Paces – Tries turf for the first time; has tactical speed, good closing tactics, plus Rafael Bejarano, of course.
Long Shot – 1 Lift Our Luck
Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $54,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
7 Queen’s Rite – Good career debut in a turf route; trainer Cliff Sise in second career start wins at 25 percent.
2 Crispy Corey – His one dirt race was the fastest speed figure of his career; a repeat number may be good enough.
Long Shot – 4 Jade River
Race 7 – 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
10 Coo Cachoo – Won sharp off the claim by Julio Canani; flashed good speed throughout for Joel Rosario.
2 Hot Damon – Off the turf angle; both his dirt races have been above average, tries 2 turns on dirt for the first time.
Long Shot – 12 Kate’s Event
Race 8 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), $75,000 China Doll, Fillies, 3-year-olds
3 Singapore Lilly – Group 1 caliber filly making her domestic debut; first time with Lasix, main question is fitness.
2 Cambina – Logical chalk off a game win in last; she stretches out today and figures to see a much softer early pace.
Long Shot – 5 Cathy’s Crunches
Race 9 – 5 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
2 The Full Lavino – Ran evenly in his return off a 7-month hiatus; should be tighter and switches to Joel Rosario.
6 Tequila Blues – Been away 8 months, so watch the tote board for clues; like that P Val takes the call.
Long Shot – 8 Brace for Impact
Best Bet – 7 Stormy Linda (race 4)
