Adam Edikauskas has been accepted to attend the Experimental Aircraft Association Basic Air Academy in Oshkosh, Wis.
The academy offers young people the opportunity to meet and work with aviation professionals while learning the arts, sciences and lore of aviation.
Edikauskas, a student at Rancho High School, is a senior airman in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.
Keely Bakken, 20, has been awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study Turkish in Turkey this summer.
She will spend seven to 10 weeks in intensive language study.
A 2009 graduate of Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School, she now attends Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
Bakken is the daughter of Scott and Marlene Bakken of Las Vegas.
Trevor Higbie, 14, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.
Trevor recently completed the eighth grade at Rogich Middle School.
He enjoys jazz music and plays bass guitar.
He hopes to pursue a career in engineering.
Trevor is the son of Lee and Ginger Higbie of Las Vegas.
Christian Hirschi, 14, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.
A member of Troop 270, he helped landscape a house for Habitat for Humanity for his Eagle project.
Christian recently completed the eighth grade at Cumorah Academy of Las Vegas, where he was on the honor roll and was student council treasurer.
He enjoys playing lacrosse and hopes to pursue a career in dentistry.
Christian is the son of Chad and Crystal Hirschi of Las Vegas.
Maryknoll Palisoc is the first student in Nevada to receive the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
Palisoc, a student at the College of Southern Nevada, was one of 60 scholars in the nation selected to receive the award this year.
The scholarship supports community college students with financial need as they transfer to and complete bachelor’s degrees at universities.
Alexander Jauch has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.
A 2009 graduate of Advanced Technologies Academy, Jauch is the son of Peter Jauch of Las Vegas.
Barry Fortgang has been accepted to The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles for the 2011-12 school year.
Fortgang had lead roles in “Camp Rock” and “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at Green Valley High School and in “High School Musical 2” at Tuacahn in Ivins, Utah.
Fortgang, a 2010 graduate of Green Valley High School, is the son of Steve and Delly Fortgang of Henderson.
Kaushik Venkatesh of Henderson has been named to the dean’s honor roll at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., for the spring 2011 semester.
Jessica Hidalgo has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.
A 2010 graduate of Eldorado High School, Hidalgo is the daughter of Maria Romero of Las Vegas.
Marnelli Lapitan has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.
A 2009 graduate of Legacy High School, she is the daughter of Eliza Edralin of North Las Vegas and Diosdado Lipitan of Honolulu.
