‘Take Shelter’ opening Friday

The movie: “Take Shelter”

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Michael Shannon, Jessica Chastain, Shea Whigham

Director: Jeff Nichols

The story: Plagued by apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father wonders whether to shelter his family from the impending storm — or from himself.

The buzz: Writer-director Nichols’ drama earned acclaim at January’s Sundance film festival, then captured two awards at the Cannes film festival in May. Shannon starred in Nichols’ 2007 “Shotgun Stories” — and Chastain is in seemingly everything lately, from “The Help” to “Tree of Life” and “The Debt.”
