Dining pick of the week: Rae’s
April 2, 2012 - 11:19 pm
2531 Wigwam Parkway at Pecos Road, 897-2000
Rae’s has been a Henderson landmark for almost 20 years, and owner Joan Morris plans to keep it that way. Named after Joan’s mother, Rae’s is old-school Las Vegas with a friendly staff, a complete menu, lunch and dinner specials, a Sunday buffet served from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., aquariums and stained glass windows. It’s a locals’ favorite. Dinner entrees include chef Mike’s baby back ribs with Mississippi barbecue or Cajun-style Creole sauce, Rae’s famous fish and chips made with Icelandic cod, prime rib, teriyaki chicken, salmon (broiled, blackened or poached), lasagna and angel hair pomodoro with sliced garlic, roma tomatoes, extra-virgin olive oil and fresh basil (add chicken or jumbo shrimp). Half-pound Angus beef hamburgers are served on a sesame seed bun with fries, coleslaw or potato salad. Other sandwiches include BLT, Philly cheese, turkey stack, roast beef dip and white albacore tuna salad. There are soups, salads and desserts starring Chocolate Storm, a fresh baked brownie with ice cream, hot chocolate sauce, whipped cream and toasted almonds. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Early bird dinner specials are served from 4 to 7 p.m. and start at $9.95. Rae’s is open 24/7. — Jack Bulavsky
