Esmay’s five RBIs power Rebels to baseball win over New Mexico

Cooper Esmay had a home run, a triple and five RBIs to power UNLV to an 11-6 victory over first-place New Mexico in a Mountain West baseball game Friday at Wilson Stadium.
Esmay, a junior, opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run triple in the second inning and scored on a single by Cody Howard.
Esmay’s two-out, three-run homer highlighted a seven-run third inning that put the Rebels (21-24, 11-11) up 10-1.
Kyle Isbel, who finished 3-for-5, led off the third with a double and later hit an RBI single in the inning.
Andrew Yazdanbakhsh went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run for UNLV, which won its third straight and fourth in five games.
Rebels starter D.J. Myers (5-2) gave up two runs on eight hits and two walks and struck out three in five innings.
Jack Zoellner and Jared Mang each went 3-for-5 for the Lobos (31-17, 16-6), who held a 14-11 edge in hits. Zoellner had a double and scored twice, and Mang had a triple and drove in two runs.
