Mickelson, Scott favored after adjusted odds for U.S. Open
Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott share the favorite’s role after an odd Thursday at the U.S Open in which play was delayed twice by rain and suspended because of darkness in Ardmore, Pa.
Mickelson shot 3-under-par 67 at Merion Golf Club, and Scott, the Masters winner and former UNLV standout, was 3 under through 11 holes. Luke Donald, the leader at 4 under, had completed 13 holes when play was suspended.
LVH golf oddsmaker Jeff Sherman made Mickelson and Scott 11-2 co-favorites, with Donald the third choice at 7-1.
“Scott is an absolute machine in the majors,” Sherman said. “He’s got a better record than anyone in the last six or seven majors.”
Going into the tournament, Scott and Mickelson each was at 20-1. Tiger Woods was the 9-2 favorite, and his odds were adjusted to 12-1 after play Thursday. Woods was 2 over and putting for par on the 11th when his day ended.
“Tiger is not off to a good start, and the big thing is he injured his wrist,” Sherman said.
The LVH also will post adjusted odds and matchups after play today and Saturday.
