22-year-old struck three times on U.S. 95

A man died Sunday after being struck by three vehicles on the U.S. Highway 95 near Lake Mead Boulevard.

Leandrew Corey Wells, 22, of Las Vegas, entered the highway about noon and walked eastbound along the travel lanes, where he was first hit by a 2007 Ford F-150 going southbound, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

Wells then walked across the median into the northbound lanes, where he was hit by a 2012 Toyota Camry. The driver tried to avoid the pedestrian, according to police.

He continued walking and was struck a third time by a 2002 Chevrolet truck. Wells was taken to University Medical Center. where he was pronounced dead.

“It’s illegal to be a pedestrian on a controlled access highway,” Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant Kevin Honea said. A controlled access highway is one with on- and off-ramps, he explained. The ramps are also off-limits to pedestrians and bicyclists.

It is unknown why Wells was on the freeway.

The cause and manner of his death are still pending, and will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
