Bicyclist dies after being struck by car Wednesday

A bicyclist died Wednesday after being hit by a car on Valley View Boulevard.

Edward Patrick Shelby, 57, was riding a mountain bike about 5:30 p.m. on the west sidewalk of Valley View Boulevard near Capella Avenue, according to Las Vegas police. Shelby veered into the street where he was struck by a Nissan Versa and thrown from his bicycle.

He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Cause of death was multiple injuries and the manner was an accident, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

This is the 62nd traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas police jurisdiction this year. The incident remains under investigation.
