Jordan’s golf tourney fun for celebs, fans alike

It’s that time of the year again.

Time for Michael Jordan and his friends to take over the ultra-exclusive Shadow Creek Golf Club for four days of fun and golf and raise money for charity. For the fans, it’s a chance to have up-close access to the celebrities, get an autograph and, in some rare instances, a selfie for the photo files.

The four-day event, which begins today with the two-day Pro-Am, followed by Saturday’s and Sunday’s Celebrity Invitational tournament, raises thousands of dollars annually for several charities, including Opportunity Village, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Keep Memory Alive, the James R. Jordan Foundation and Cats Care (the NBA Charlotte Bobcats’ charity; Jordan is the team’s owner). Since its inception in 2001, the event has raised more than $7 million.

Many celebrities return every year, if only to get a chance to play Shadow Creek. This year’s field includes basketball legend Julius Erving, Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux, current football stars Aaron Rogers, Larry Fitzgerald, Dez Bryant, Earl Thomas and Michael Crabtree, hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky and his wife, Janet, and entertainers and actors Boyz II Men, Ray Romano, Luke Wilson and Jesse Metcalfe.

Also returning are the defending champions, former baseball players Ozzie Smith and Vince Coleman.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate daily. Prices are $30 for a daily admission badge and $100 for all four days. Children 17 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket-paying adult (maximum of two children per adult). There is also a VIP package available that includes free parking and food and drink from the hospitality deck located near the 18th green. VIP prices are $150 daily or $500 for all four days.

Parking is $10 at Shadow Creek, which is located in North Las Vegas on Washburn Avenue off Losee Road. Free shuttle service to and from the course is being provided from the Aria. Fans are not permitted to bring memorabilia items to be signed, and no backpacks or large purses are allowed.
