Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, July 11
July 10, 2014 - 7:10 pm
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Electrolyte – Claimed by a razor sharp Doug O’Neill barn; colt has back class where he may win this by memory.
1 Afternoon Sun – Tepid chalk in a well matched 5-pack; ran miserably off the claim by Mark Glatt, for forgiving handicappers.
Long Shot – 5 Time to Go Robo
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
5 Valdirone – Speedy sort exits a turf race for the dirt main track; he broke his MSW on dirt at Santa Anita a while back.
1 Bob Consultation – The key for me is his race two back is fast enough to crush these; depends on which horse shows up tonight.
Long Shot – 3 Night Badger
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Saint Lemone – Another horse for forgiving handicappers only; was vanned off a turf race in last at Golden Gate Fields.
5 Ten in Excess – If you follow my Dummies book and my handicap, you know how much I like cut back horses; should have a cozy wide trip.
Long Shot – 7 Think Again
Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
2 Freaky Floyd – FTS from the Tim Yakteen barn gets my vote; the ones with experience don’t tweak my interest much.
1 Naomi’s Gift – This one is from the clever Molly Pearson barn; she races a lot in Phoenix and this one has trained at San Luis Rey Downs.
Long Shot – 6 G Q Grace
Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Puttybadshark – Speed and the rail under Joe Talamo; the fact that Talamo is riding this meet, he’s been selective with all live mounts.
5 It’s Aine – A rider who has taken to Los Al like white on rice is bugboy Drayden Van Dyke; his 5-pound allowance is like stealing.
Long Shot – 3 Missy Marini
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Omar Little – Any horse related to Stuart Little is fine by me; will try an duplicate his maiden win for Joe Talamo.
3 I Buy Gold – If you’ve ever heard of this trainer, you have one on me; key vote is the good riding of Tiago Pereira.
Long Shot – 4 Midnight Mayhem
Race 7 – 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Tacit Approval – She broke her maiden on dirt at Fairplex Park; has speed and figures to attend the early pace.
2 Hanserella – Speedball has a lousy record on a main dirt track; still she has a classy resume and may adapt better in Orange County.
Long Shot – 4 Gelila
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Cocabella Myst – FTS from Mike Pupye in a ran where the ones with experience look like Swiss cheese; that means lots of holes in them.
5 Run Rosie Run – Showed a little bit of early gas in last; may be the best of a sorry lot with race experience.
Long Shot – 10 Copper Ore
Best Bet – 1 Puttybadshark (race 5)
Los Alamitos Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$27.80; Long Shots, 8/3/$42.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Los Alamitos Totals – 84/17/$96.40; Long Shots, 41/9/$131.20; Best Bets, 5/2/$7.20
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #4 Countryman (8/1) in race 7 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Sinistra ran third at Belmont Park paying $3.10 to show. Stats – 105/64/$602.80; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
