Last days of 2018 bringing cooler temps, sunny skies to Las Vegas

Updated December 25, 2018 - 8:53 pm

Showers early Tuesday brought the Las Vegas Valley a wet Christmas — if only for a little while.

A brief band of rain soaked the foothills of Red Rock National Conservation Area and stretched east to Sunrise Mountain. But by the afternoon, the drizzle dried up.

It was likely the last time the valley will see rain this year. The last days of 2018 will be mostly sunny and chilly, National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Gorelow said.

Wednesday is expected to see a high of 56 and a low of 41. Thursday through Sunday, highs will hover around the high 40s.

Thursday’s low is expected to be 38, followed by 37 on Friday, 33 on Saturday, and freezing on Sunday.

A high of 52 and a low of 36 are forecast for New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Strip.

Wednesday marks the only day this year Mount Charleston has a slight chance of more snow, Gorelow said.

Kyle Canyon Road was briefly shut down Christmas afternoon after a wreck caused a bottleneck on the already congested route. Police opened it a few hours later.
